Location:
Working Woods Learning Forest at The Holden Arboretum (9805 Sperry Rd. Kirtland OH 44094)
Program Description:
This hands-on workshop for the hobbyist and small landowner will cover the practical aspects of growing mushrooms outdoors and how it relates to sustainable forest management. Join us for a tour of The Working Woods Mushroom Laying Yard, a presentation by Holden Arboretum Consulting Forester, Jessica Miller Mecaskey, and hands-on instruction on how to drill holes, fill them with shiitake mushroom plug spawn, and seal everything with wax.
At the end of the workshop, each participant will have had an opportunity to experience all steps, be equipped with the basics of log maintenance, and will take one log home to grow their own mushrooms outdoors. Logs are anticipated to be approximately 4"-6" in diameter and 42"-48" in length.
Light morning refreshments will be provided.
